What kind of personality are you?
Do you have a high degree of personal initiative?
We define personal initiative as:
"A positive character trait that describes the degree to which you possess the willingness and ability to take self initiated action in the pursuit of your goals. "
Personal initiative is important because:
Everything you wish to achieve has its specific causes that need to be enacted to make it happen. If you do not enact the causes, the effect will also not occur. If you do enact the causes the effect must occur and you MUST receive the object of your desires.
But- and here is the kicker- nobody can MAKE you act. You can always choose to "leave it until tomorrow". You can say always say: "I ll do it tomorrow."
And many people do! How many people do you know "put things off"? They say "I don't need to start now, I do it later." And they fail to initiate actions that are necessary to create the results they say they want.
How many people do you know, who are waiting for the circumstances to become more favorable before they agree to act? They say: I'll wait. The circumstances are not quite right yet."
Personal initiative is the most potent of personal characteristics. It is the one that is worth the most to you and your family. The lack of personal initiative is the one flaw in your character that, if not corrected, will cost you the most. Did you know that, in essence, there are four levels of personal initiative?
Level one
The person who will do the right thing before he-she is asked and before it needs to be done
Level two
The person who does the right thing, but only if asked.
Level three
The person who will do the right thing, but only if he-she has been asked several times.
Level four
The person who refuses to do the right thing, no matter how many times he is asked, nor how bad the situation has become.
Let us look at each in tern:
Level one personality
The person who will do the right thing before he is asked and before it needs to be done. This type sees an opportunity to take action. The task does not HAVE TO BE DONE: nobody is asking for it. If it is not done no immediate catastrophe will follow (today). But taking action today sets up a train of cause and effect that will pay huge divides later in the year.
This action is
- Creative
- Preemptive
- Imaginative
- Valuable
Actions that are self initiated, goal directed and intelligently executed will inevitably pay you back many- fold.
People who are level one personality tend to be richer, happier and more successful. If you check the records, you will see for yourself.
Here are a few people with personal initiative
- Mohamed Ali
- Margaret Thatcher
- President Obama
- Arnold Schwarzenegger
They are level one personalities. Join the gang. Be a level one personality too.
Level two personalities
The person who does the right thing, but only if asked or only if it has become a crisis Level two people work for level one personalities. Level two personalities don't make much money and they are often stressed out. These people make good employees but not good leaders. Why? Because they need to be told what to do. This type has good potential for leadership because they can change and activate their personal initiative at will. Today.
Level three personalities
The person who will do the right thing but only if he has been asked several times or it is late and he is being chased. Level three personalities eventually get into deep trouble. These people make poor employees. They have to be permanently checked and double checked. It is a waste of time and effort. These people should strive to become a level two character type.
Level four personalities
The person who refuses to do the right thing, no matter how many times he is asked, nor how bad the situation has become. Level four personalities end up sick and depressed and at the bottom of the ladder. They probably do not work for your organization because they are almost unemployable. These people need help.

Personal initiative is important because:
ONLY IF you enact the rights causes will you receive the object of your desires.
Develop your powers of personal initiative today by taking the following steps.
1. Don't wait: Do what you can, with what you have got, today.
2. Look for things that could be done.
3. Ignore the excuses that you tell yourself.
4. Do it now.
